CMC Asian Heritage Month Awards Gala 2026 | MAC Recap

About the Event

The Canadian Multicultural Council (CMC) Asians in Ontario held its 21st Annual Outstanding Asian Canadian Community Awards Gala on May 2, 2026 at Casa Deluz Banquet Hall, Scarborough. The theme this year was “Honouring the Pioneers.”

What Happened

The Malaysian Association of Canada (MAC) proudly nominated Venerable Chuehfan, Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Toronto, for the Outstanding Asian Canadian Community Award. She won and received her award on stage at the ceremony.

Venerable Chuehfan is a respected spiritual leader originally from Malaysia, dedicated to interfaith dialogue, multicultural engagement, and Buddhist education across Canada and the United States.

Malaysian Canadian Dr. Tracy Wong, choral conductor and Eileen Mercier Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, was also recognized as a Local Hero for championing Asian voices in the global choral scene.

The evening featured a traditional lion dance performance, a formal dinner, and awards presentations across multiple Asian Canadian communities.
