Celebrating the Year of the Horse: MAC’s 2026 Annual Gala Dinner

The Malaysian Association of Canada (MAC) welcomed members, friends, and distinguished guests to a vibrant evening of celebration at the 2026 Year of the Horse Annual Gala Dinner. Held in collaboration with the High Commission of Malaysia in Ottawa, the event brought together the Malaysian community and friends of Malaysia for a memorable night filled with culture, tradition, and connection.

The gala welcomed over 300 guests, creating an atmosphere of warmth, laughter, and shared celebration. It was an evening that truly reflected MAC’s mission of bringing Malaysians and friends of Malaysia together through community, cultural appreciation, and meaningful connections.

Honoured Guests and Distinguished Attendees

MAC was deeply honoured to welcome Her Excellency Dato’ Dr Shazelina Zainul Abidin and her team from the High Commission of Malaysia in Ottawa, whose presence made the evening especially meaningful. The gala was also attended by Members of Parliament, Toronto dignitaries, academic leaders including a vice-chancellor, and respected Asian community leaders.

Their presence highlighted the growing connections between communities and reaffirmed the important role MAC plays in fostering cultural exchange and strengthening relationships within the Canadian multicultural landscape.

A Night of Culture, Celebration, and Community

The evening began with the exhilarating energy of a traditional Lion Dance, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead. Guests also took part in the festive Lou Hei (Yu Sheng) tossing ceremony, a beloved Lunar New Year tradition that represents abundance, prosperity, and unity.

Throughout the night, guests enjoyed a series of captivating performances, cultural showcases, and heartfelt speeches, each contributing to the vibrant and joyful atmosphere. The celebration was filled with moments of laughter, connection, and shared pride in Malaysian culture.

The evening was masterfully hosted by Emcee Santha Tsang, who kept the program lively and engaging from start to finish.
